Pattaya 123 - Travel Guide
The largest city in Chonburi province and the eighth-largest city in Thailand. It is on the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand, about 150 kilometres (93 mi) southeast of Bangkok
Pattaya’s "Sin City" image, rooted in its history as a base for American soldiers during the Vietnam War, persists despite significant efforts by local authorities and businesses to rebrand the city as a family-friendly destination.
Outside the entertainment districts Pattaya and its beach town suburbs are quickly turning into a resort destination. Couples and families are staring to outnumber the solo male travelers in many areas of town.
Beaches, malls, islands, and resorts all without the nightlife circus
Pattaya has a reputation. Parts of town earn it. Skip those streets and what’s left is something most visitors never hear about: long beaches, mega malls, water parks, island days, golf, and enough daytime activity to fill a week without ever setting foot on Walking Street.
This guide is for travelers who are searching for the holiday, not just the entertainment districts. Whether you are staying in Central Pattaya, Pratamnak, Jomtien Beach or Na Jomtien Beach you’ll get a Thailand holiday to remember.
For you guys looking for intel on the nightlife…we have it. But it’s locked away on our member site.
Getting to Pattaya
Suvarnabhumi Airport (IATA: BKK, ICAO: VTBS)
Most international flights land at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (BKK) — about 90–120 minutes by road to central Pattaya / Jomtien, depending on traffic. Don Mueang (DMK) works too if your carrier flies there; transfer times can be longer from DMK depending on traffic.
Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC): Non-Thai nationals must complete it online before arrival — https://tdac.immigration.go.th — Free. If a site asks for payment, it’s fake.
Airport → Pattaya
• Private transfer — Best with luggage. Book ahead (WhatsApp drivers like Pim’s Pattaya Taxi are a local favorite). Expect roughly 1,200–1,500 baht including tolls for a car; confirm the current rate when you book. Driver waiting at arrivals is worth every baht.
• Airport taxi stand — Outside arrivals. Agree the price before you load bags. Same ballpark as a private transfer.
• RRC Bus — Budget option from BKK (Level 1, Gate 8) to the Jomtien station. About 160 baht, hourly roughly 07:00–22:00. Fine for light packers; awkward with multiple big suitcases.
Once you’re in town: Bolt App and Grab App for cars or motorcycles. Most in town trips cost around 140 baht.
Baht buses circulate the major roads. Wave and they pull over, jump in, push the buzzer to get off. Pay the fare 15 baht.
SIMs: True / AIS booths at BKK arrivals, or any 7-Eleven in town. Grab data before you leave the airport so maps and rides work immediately.
Where to stay (and what to skip)
Base in Jomtien or Pratumnak. Quieter beaches, better resort energy, easier mornings. Central Pattaya and the nightlife sois — Walking Street, Soi 6, LK Metro, Buakhao after dark — are adult entertainment districts. You don’t need to “see them once.” Just don’t.
Na Jomtien is the future. Beachfront restaurants, water sports (windsurfing, kiteboarding), rental villas, and resorts facing the sea. It’s a true beachfront community and a fast escape from the ever-growing hustle of central Pattaya — closer to The Standard, Alexa Beach Club, and the Na Jomtien dinner strip than to Walking Street.
1. Hard Rock Hotel Pattaya — Lagoon-style pool with a slide, music-themed rooms, strong pool deck. Central Beach Road puts malls close; lively energy without needing the sois.
2. Hilton Pattaya — Iconic beachfront tower above Central Festival. Big rooms, serious pool deck, rooftop views. Beach Road shopping days without living in nightlife.
3. Lewit Hotel Pattaya (Radisson Individuals) — Pratumnak Soi 5. Modern rooms, pool, spa/fitness — quiet hill base near Dongtan / Yin Yom beaches, away from the entertainment grid.
4. Hill Fresco — Pratumnak Soi 5. Boutique stay close to the water. Pet-friendly (Premier / Cabana rooms — confirm fees and notice when you book).
5. The Standard, Pattaya Na Jomtien — New beachfront resort south of town. Design-forward, pools, beach clubs — built for resort days, not soi nights.
6. Royal Cliff Beach Hotel — Cliffside classic between Pratumnak and the bay. Grounds, views, space to roam. Feels removed from downtown in the best way.
7. BB House / BB Hotel — Dongtan Beach. Small boutique beach stay; walk-to-sand convenience on the quieter curve between Pratumnak and Jomtien.
8. Amari Pattaya — North bay resort feel, multiple pools. Solid middle ground between fun and calm.
9. Cape Dara Resort — North Pattaya beachfront with room to breathe, pools, and a calmer pace — still an easy hop to malls and attractions.
10. U Jomtien Pattaya — Stylish Jomtien stay with strong pool / skyline energy. Design without chaos.
Booking tip: Outside high season, lock 2–3 nights first. Hate the room or the noise? Move. Hate nothing? Extend.
Central Festival Mall
Shopping & air-conditioned survival
Thai heat is not a personality test — plan a mall afternoon into every other day and you’ll last the week.
Terminal 21 Pattaya is the airport-themed mega mall: food courts, shops, cinema, and enough browsing to kill a rainy afternoon. Go-karts sit out front (E-Gokart by MONOWHEEL).
Central Festival Pattaya Beach on Beach Road is the flagship — big brands, restaurants, easy walking when the sun is punishing.
Mike Shopping Mall and the local markets handle souvenirs and chaos in smaller doses. Set a budget before you walk in.oast corridor. Confirm current hours and ticket types online the week you travel — offerings change.
And yes: a nothing-day at a good lagoon pool still counts as a successful holiday. Hard Rock, Hilton, and The Standard exist partly for that reason.
Sanctuary of Truth
North Pattaya’s enormous carved-wood temple on the water. The scale alone is the attraction — look up, walk the galleries, take the photos. Pair it with a north-end lunch and you’ve filled a morning without rushing.

Pratumnak Soi 5 — the Beverly Hills stretch
Pratumnak Soi 5 is the neighborhood walk: tree-lined, compact, and quietly expanding into Soi 4 and Soi 6. Locals call it the Beverly Hills of Pratumnak for a reason — cafés, restaurants, pubs, and sauna clubs stacked within a few blocks of ocean air, without the downtown entertainment-district circus.
Everything here is walkable. Sunset at the foot of the hill, dinner on the soi, a cold beer at a sports bar, then the sauna if you still have legs.
Eat & drink on the soi: Dom Pizza for neighborhood pizza without a production. The View when golden hour matters — book the lookout table. La Cremerie for crêpes and coffee between walks. Sands Cafe for breakfast and sunset-adjacent lingering. Co & Cafe for casual café energy. Sunflour Eatery for a proper sit-down without leaving the hill. Chicha’s when the board looks right and the room holds you.
Cabbages & Condoms — Thailand’s famous social-enterprise restaurant (Mechai Viravaidya / “Mr. Condom” and the PDA). The joke is the mission: condoms should be as common as cabbages. Profits support family-planning and community work; the food is why people come back. Pattaya branch sits on the Pratumnak / Birds & Bees side along the Soi 4 corridor.
Saunas: Sand’s Sauna Beach Club at the foot of Soi 5 is oceanfront — pool, cold and hot plunges, food and drinks, saunas with a Gulf view. The Sauna on Soi 6 Pratumnak is the same idea without the oceanfront premium — usually the sharper value.
Oceanfront 7-Eleven: at the foot of Soi 5 — cold drinks, snacks, front-row sunset. No cover. No reservation.
At the foot of Soi 5 you’ll find one of the rarest flexes on the planet: a 7-Eleven with a sunset. Cold drinks, snacks, and a front-row seat on the water. Grab a beer, sit on the curb or the seawall, and watch the sky do the work. No cover, no reservations
Where to eat
Na Jomtien oceanfront
South of the hill, the dinners get serious. The Cave for beachfront dining and club energy — reserve sunset. Bacco Beach Italian for Italian on the sand. View Mare for oceanfront classics with kite and windsurf schools nearby. Alexa Beach Club / Resort for pool-resort days with a restaurant and bar — daybeds from lunch into sunset, Na Jomtien Soi 8 area.
Cozy Beach (Pratumnak)
On the Pratumnak water, the Instagram strip earns its reputation. The Oxygen Beachfront Oasis sprawls along the sand with Thai and international plates, cocktails, and sunset seats (pets often welcome outdoors). 3 Mermaids does bird-nest and net seating — reserve for golden hour. The Chocolate Factory sits on the same sea-view run. The Sky Gallery handles crafted coffee, a beach bar, and Thai plus international cooking with bay and Koh Larn views.
Jomtien & the beach strip
Jomtien Talay Pao Pattaya — Fresh seafood, your table, your grill. Shrimp, crabs, squid, oysters — you cook it on a tabletop BBQ and it hits every time. Ridiculously priced at about ฿450 per person. This is the move when you want a proper seafood night without a fancy-restaurant bill.
30175 Italian Bistro — Handmade pasta, a violin player wandering the room, refined without being pretentious. Walk in off the beach and it feels like you found something the guidebooks miss on purpose.
El Gaucho Steakhouse — Best steaks in town. When the craving is red meat and a proper plate, this is the answer.
Peaky Blinders — Solid night out with a theme that actually works — good for a group dinner that turns into drinks.
Hemingway’s — Classic bar-and-grill energy. Easy default when you want familiar comfort and a cold beer.
Pattaya
The Sportsman’s Pub (Soi 13) — Pattaya institution. Best pub food in town, a bar you can actually sit at, live sports, ice-cold beer. No bar girls, no short-time rooms, no hustle — just a traditional pub that does everything right.
Robin Hood — Reliable stop for food and a pint when you want some comfort food without the soi circus.
Noona & Son — Local favorite for a proper sit-down meal — go when you want comfort without overthinking it.
The Market Pattaya Bistro & Grill — Bistro-and-grill middle ground — good for mixed groups that can’t agree on cuisine.
Wizard Brewing — Craft beer when Chang isn’t cutting it. Pair with whatever’s on the food menu and settle in.
Daisy D’s — Hard to miss with the full sized General Lee hanging above the bar. Easygoing sports bar with games on the tv and burgers on the grill — air conditioned billiards room in the back for those who travel with their own cue stick.
