Pro: Sosua/Cabarete Directory

Our constantly updated list of phone numbers along the North Coast. Goods and services that we know and trust, these are the people we use in our own personal life.

Malibu’s #109 Playa Sosua, located directly in the middle of Playa Sosua. 100 feet past Tree House bar.

Taxi Drivers

Fair, trustworthy and dependable. They can arrange pick up and drop offs anywhere along the North Coast and/or Santiago. Please tip accordingly

Fernando: 829-889-4032

Ramon: 809-885-2832

There are regular taxi stands located downtown Sosua and Cabarete. Look for the TAXI signs… they also have the regulated fares to/from most destinations posted on a large sign at each stand. Make sure you ask the price before getting in the taxi. Note: Taxi service from POP airport is regulated and the drivers pay a tax for pickup and drop offs, thus it is more expensive. $35usd from Sosua.

Buses

Caribe Express. There is zero reason to list a phone number, you can’t buy or reserve tickets in advance. The station is located in Charamico’s on Route 5. Buses depart every hour for Puerto Plata, Santiago, La Vega and Santo Domingo. Just arrive at the station, purchase a ticket and jump on the next bus. Sosua is the departure point for all outbound busses, they are never full. There are “express” buses to Santo Domingo four times per day, these buses do not stop in Santiago and arrive slightly faster. 4 hours versus the typical 5 hours. The station in Santo Domingo is a five minute taxi or uber ride from Zona Colonial, twenty - thirty minutes depending on traffic to SDQ

Metro Bus. Located at the Texaco station downtown Sosua. These are slightly nicer buses than Caribe Express but they have less departures and the drop off station in Santo Domingo is farther away from the tourist district and airport.

Uber

Not available in Sosua or Cabarete. Puerto Plata (not allowed at the airport). Fairly reliable just expect the occasional bit of nonsense such as the driver saying he needs a bit of cash for fuel.. it happens. Viable in Santiago and Santo Domingo, bit sketchy on the North Coast. Conclusion, cheaper than the taxi services but not very well regulated like in the US.

Rental Cars

OK Motors: located in Sosua. They get the best reviews by far and that says something.

Raquel / Jorge: 849-248-2086 : Toyota RAV4’s with full insurance. Raquel used to be the mayor of Cabarete, her son Jorge speaks fluent English and pretty much runs the rental car business. Jorge’s number is the one listed, send him a message via WhatsApp. They give really killer deals for long term rentals (bi weekly or monthly). Raquel is also a well known attorney and her number is listed in that section.
